Dreary Day at the Ranch

This is about the lamest attempt yet to control what people say on the forum at Bonanza.

I thought we were adults and knew how to communicate our thoughts, or at least I am and do ... apparently not

Earlier someone started this thread

http://www.bonanza.com/forums/1/topics/137274  it's about the Rushes, no one knows when they are going to start. We were told mid Oct but nothing happened. Meanwhile people are saying there has been one or one is scheduled, no body really knows what is going on and no announcements from management.

I find it all a tad funny... and somewhat typical of things lately

so I made a post that said “I just love communication around here”

so then I get this Bmail from Mark

“I just love communication around here”
Hey Crystal,
I wanted to let you know that we have removed your forum post (copied above). We removed it because it is kinda dreary and will only serve to spread dreariness in the community. Maybe a better way to make your point in the future is something like this;
“I have not heard of that yet, wondering of they are going to make an announcement soon” or something like that.
Thanks,
Mark
Bonanza

WTH
Just what is his definition of dreary.... anything that isn't "I love this place" I guess and these days I find those words a tad dreary

So, now we have gone from DMVing, deleting, locking threads, taking them out of the main stream, to deleting to actually suggesting how you should say things.

Can't say they do not go above and beyond, just not with the things they should.
Had a bit of conversation with him over this, didn't say what was on my mind :) but I'm guessing that the next time I am dreary and considering this blog I will get another vacation.

Someone started an however many hours to Christmas thread... I wanted to post my usual "bah humbug" or "bah humpug"  that everyone expects from me but good golly miss molly lets not be funny, it might be dreary humor.

So, how can he be surprised that people are afraid to post to the forum. We will all soon be down to "good morning, hot here, roast beef for dinner, rah rah".

How Many Ways Can Bonanza Find to Shut Members Up

One of the things that Bonanza seems to be very good at is finding ways to shut up the members. It is more and more obvious that unless you are spewing nonsense or how wonderful the site and boyz are, it is not wanted on the forum. Intelligent conversation, pointing out problems and concerns are just not welcome.

Some time ago they realized that to DMV and delete, lock threads on all unwanted comments would soon have the villagers at the gate with pitchforks. So, what were they to do.... find some sneaky means to leave things but not have them seen.

This first thing I will comment on isn't sneaky, it's out in the open but still not quite right IMO. Blogs by support...most are left open to comments, however, recently they have started closing some to comments. I think Alex has closed his last 3 blogs if I am not mistaken. This happens when those that have issues with whatever he is talking about are making too much sense and his responses are not changing their minds. Sorry, to single out Alex, he isn't the only one, but the last 2 blogs are his and they were closed to comment.

Now, this one is sneaky and there are still many who do not realize this is going on. Some months back when a thread was something they didn't really want people to see they came up with a way to leave it and let it die. Now, in doing this they can make themselves sound wonderful by saying "we didn't delete it, lock it or send it to the dungeon". However, what happens is most no longer see the thread and it will drop to the bottom of the forum it is posted to and die from not being seen. How is this done. Well, most of us do not go to every individual forum to read threads, most of us go to "All recent discussions" where we can see all the forums latest threads and the first part of the last comment posted to it. So, what does support do when they want a thread "out of sight" and to ultimately die. They leave it on the forum it was posted to yet remove it from the recent discussions. To find it you have to go to the forum it was posted to or know where to find it.

Shortly after this they realized that if it was a really hot topic that was not enough, most of us had a thread bookmarked or would go to the forum it was on to find it... oh my what to do now... well they came up with another way. Flagged for opinion collection:
Due to the high response volume on this topic, forum moderators have designated that responses to this topic will be directed to our support inbox, where they will be organized and considered together.
Got an opinion on this? We'd love to hear your thoughts:

What happens here is the thread is basically, locked but people can post, however, your post does not post to the thread and goes to support.  The comment about "high response volume" is carp cause some do not have a lot of post to them. Again, this happens when people start making too much sense pointing things out.

Since it is not actually being posted to, then this too will die a slow death since it is not being bumped.

They really do not want your opinions in support... when a thread is removed from the recent discussions and flagged for opinion collection  ... how are they going to get opinions when it is not on the recent discussion list and it can not be bumped... simple, they don't want your opinion, they don't want people to see it , they just want it to go away... yet by doing it this way they can say "we could have deleted it and didn't, and we are asking for your opinion"... Sorry, I wouldn't have fallen for that fairy tale as a child, darn sure wont now.

Examples

Some of us are not happy with yet another new aspect of Bonanza.. the "Bag" site

so we are not allowed to discuss why, or mention what would help or anything else... Alex closed his blog to comments

This thread was locked for opinions

http://www.bonanza.com/forums/1/topics/135262?page=14#

Sometime after that someone posted a thread asking about the bag link at the top of the page, nothing wrong with the thread, someone gave the blog link and someone gave the link to the thread... well, don't you know it was almost immediately taken from the recent discussion list

http://www.bonanza.com/forums/1/topics/135309#

I am guessing that will be the fate for any on this topic.

Just what do they think they are accomplishing by all this? What are they afraid of?

This does not make anything go away, it does not make anything better, it just pisses people off !!!

Some have rose colored glasses on all the time, others do not. Those that do not will not put them on just because the boyz think they are shutting them up.

Personally even if I like or agree with something, I like to hear the other side, I may learn something or find out something I didn't think of.

What is so wrong with different opinions and points of view? Seems wrong acting like they do not exist. Seems wrong that if it is not the "party line" then you do not have the right to be heard. Yes, it's their sandbox, and that is just what it's like, kindergarten ....spoiled kids in charge, "if I don't like what you say, you can't say it and no one else can hear it"

Bonanza/Bonanzle Truth or Consequences Remember that Game ?

Well, for sometime people have told me I should. I  said I never would, but I also said I would never get a computer and be on the net. Recently I have thought I would start a blog, today seems to be the day.

It seems that as time goes by Bonanzle, pardon me Bonanza, gets less forthcoming with information, there is more censorship and more punishment for anyone trying to ask honest questions or ask for the site to be accountable.

The forum, while at a time of change should be quite active, is fairly dull. Lots of welcomes and the usual "no meat" posting. Every time someone comes along that is not rah rah, asks tough questions or points out issues, they are DMVed, thread/post removed, suspended or even removed from the site all together.

This blog may get me removed, who knows since they do read and care what we say on our blogs. But, we have to be able to say what we think and feel somewhere. We have to be able to ask the tough questions and give the important information somewhere. It is their censorship and strict control over what we can and can not say that has driven so many of us to putting all the "dirty laundry" so to say, off site and on blogs.

Earlier this evening there was a good bit of talk that the site had a security breach. Bill's blog had been altered and there was a lot of foul language that Bill (lets hope) would not use.

One thread had been started with a more humorous take on this and it had been deleted relatively fast. At this point I thought it relevant that we know one way or the other if we had a security issue. There was no doubt that the boyz would fix it, however, I wanted to know that it had or had not happened, what had been done to correct it and if we needed to change our passwords, just how far had it gone. I do believe this is something that we ALL had a right to know.

So, I started a thread and this was my post

******************************

Bonanza Secruity Breach ??

I understand we have had a breach in site security
if this is so, I would really like to know to what extent
I think for one thing Bill’s blog was highjacked
but, I really would like to know the extent please
did anyone see or experience anything weird, if so I think we need to all know and also report it to support
do we need to all change our password, or should we to be on the safe side

It didn't take long from what I understand to be locked and this post from Mark

"@Pugs, there was not a security breach. We are experimenting with different blogs to capture the uniqueness of some of our categories. That is all"

at  7:58 PM I received this Bmail from Mark

Your post seems a bit "end of the worldish" and only serves to invoke drama. Were you not able to get a prompt reply via support?

WTH

First I didn't email support.. the situation was on the blog for all to see and I feel it was an honest question we all deserved an honest answer for.

then I guess he couldn't wait for me to eat my dinner and answer his bmail .. at 8:15PM I was DMVed

this is my 3rd in 3 months .. now, I could never get them to tell me what the first was for and the second was for a joke .. Mark told me I should put a disclaimer so people would know I was kidding and I said that was what the smiley face was. So, I guess I have a 24 hour suspension. I wouldn't mind but there is no justice or fairness in the forum ... OK that is a whole other blog

POINT OF THIS STORY

What the hell are they hiding for such a knee jerk over reaction.

If there was no breach all Mark had to do was respond to the first thread about this and/or respond to mine so the topic could be answered, members reassured and we move on.

To zap one thread, DMV me instead of giving a simple answer makes one wonder what are they hiding. They sure want to just shut everyone up instead of dealing with questions.

Now, I ask, was a question that could have just had the simple answer given invoking drama.. or was the DMVing invoking drama????

Boyz, I think we are a tad over touchy to say the least. For guyz who are suppose to be easy going with a sense of humor you sure are uptight and worried.
